Finally Finished Mermay

Hello!

My long hiatus was due to a weird event, I call it "Bumping up in Retail". I moved up to a full time position, so I was all of exhaustion, fear, and sleep. Most of it me running around in circles.

And to make my excuses even more insane, the program I usually use has corrupted on me. I could only use it as administrator... which had none of my tools or presets. Very convenient to my timing of needing sleep, so it was a double-whamy.

I have to remind myself not to worry too much, I downloaded a new software to move over to, and I have a storyboard software I am moving into at the same time. This should be interesting, especially since I will be watching a lot of tutorials.

Here's the final piece of my Mermay 2018: (let's just say next year I will be doing simpler drawings)

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is now The Daily Wave

As to the software I will soon be using: Krita for comics and animations, and Wonderunit's Storyboarder. I am honestly looking forward to dedicating more time to these programs and play around with them.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying the end of 2018! For the end has just begun!

Sherlock Mermay

Hello!

I have BBC's Sherlock as Mermay:

I only have one more to complete, and this one took the longest. Mostly because of the design. No flat.

I have set goals for myself for the end of the month, kinda treating it like a video game. Tasks to complete before a prize... kinda sad really, but I want it to work for now, just to trick myself into sitting down at the desk. Once I'm at the desk it's easier to start work.

I am planning to have the last mermay completed by next week, and I'm thinking of timing a storyboard or two into an animatic.

It should be fun to see what I get done first.

Updates for Mermay 2018 and storyboards

Hello!

I have finished another Mermay project! Mwuahahahahha.

This week I have Game of Thrones completed.

I want to finish this set so bad I am pumped. I have another series I am looking forward to working on as well.

I also have an untimed animatic for a web commercial that I am turning into an animation.

Already have the software for it and everything installed. Just putting the pieces together to start the animation process. I FEEL USEFUL.

Fun fact: Glass House by Brian Alexander is a great read. I compare it to reading The Disney Touch by Ron Grover, which is very similar when talking about company takeovers, moneymaking strategies, and leaving people feeling left out.
Also, ever since I've read this book, I have bought a ton of Anchor Hocking Glassware... I don't even know what to do with half of it. Mostly food related filling.

I am aiming to get a couple other storyboards into the untimed animatic stage, and to time that web commercial. Also want to visit the nature park nearest me and see what I can draw there. The water is pretty high right now, so it's gorgeous. Here's some shots from the last time I went.

Sketchy Thursday #6

Hello!

I have learned that hating busy days is just in the business, but so is hating slow days. It's interesting being in retail hours way more than I thought originally.

This week is a self portrait... and in all honesty, I did not want to do it. So here it is!

I hate doing these as much as the next person.  blegh.

I am going to be more active here in the next month. I still have 3 mermay's to finish, along with some animatics I want to complete. I may also touch up on some projects that have been sitting around for a couple years.

Welp! See you next week.

Storyboards!

Hello!

I have some storyboards for this week! I am so excited there are exclamation points everywhere.

I'm still getting used to full time hours since I have been part time for so long. And it's even more awkward that it's the same schedule that's all over the place.

And the storyboard I chose to start with is an experience with my friend's cat at 3:00 am for my first sleep over at her place.

It's been a while since I've played with a story and working angles. I'll probably return to this one because I still feel like that last scene could be better. Either that, or take it out completely.

As to sketchy Thursday, sorry about last week. I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Thanks for sticking around, see you again soon!

Mermay in final stages~

Hello!

I have four more here, and three more on the way. Almost finished the ten.

I was not expecting my job to suck my energy out this past week at all. Although, I also had a family event, so there was that.

This time I have Silicon Valley, House, Breaking Bad, and Barry. Is it obvious I watch HBO?

I do not have many illustration ideas after the Mermay project. I am going to shift into storyboards, especially since I got a new tool to work on them with. Hoping that I can use it anywhere and be more comfortable than a massive laptop and tablet setup. Just feels off that way.

Anyway, see you soon!

Sketchy Thursday #4

I'm Alive!!!

I survived the rush of Memorial Day weekend! A rush of madness and lack of sleep led to me rushing mermay last second. However, that is for next Tuesday! (Watch me extend those deadlines like a boss)

Today I have a bike and leather boots.

I have a friend that decided to meld some bikes together to create the "tall bike" and it rides pretty well with balance.

See you Tuesday, and stay crazy~

Once Upon A Time Mermay

Hello!

I have an addition to the Mermay challenge. I am realizing the promise of 10 images by the end of May is coming to an end faster than I anticipated... But I've got the rest drawn out, it's coloring that is killing me more than it should.

Also, came across something. You can tell I am not belonging to two fandom's when I think my last name is referencing a character from Game of Thrones... when it's actually referencing Supernatural...
(My last name is Crowley)

This has happened. And I am thinking of adding another one. Not really. But a thought.

She holds the stars. I also had to put her jacket in there. Couldn't resist.

Have a great Tuesday, and see you Thursday!

Mermay Continues

Hello again!

I can now officially say that I am approved for a full time position that was hovering above my previous one. AKA any chunk of time that is not spent there will be spent on as much art as I can grapple with.

So going straight into it! I have Last Week Tonight with John Oliver as a mermaid. Because comedy adds levity where it's needed in life.

He's going over the trash epidemic in the ocean. Also, his suits are still impeccable.

I've got two weeks left to do 8 of these, I think I got this.

Enjoy your week and, until next Tuesday, stay crazy!

Sketchy Thursday #1

Hi there!

This is something I started with a while ago, disappeared, and came back to. A 500 Prompt drawing book! I got it at a Books a Million a few years back, a purchase I do not regret.

I am starting to upload images from it every Thursday (as decided last week) so I decided I'd upload it here too.

To see previous weeks/days of drawings: 500Prompts

MerMay Beginnings

Hello~

It has been an exciting week, and I am just going to go into the art. Here it is!

Take it as you will, I am going to avoid paragraphs of explanations from now on... If I can help it.

By the way, Looking for reference on the MerMay for today is a fun google look-up. Pushed perspective, it gives you a mind teaser in an image.

I've signed up for a storyboard course for over the weekend, and I am putting more energy into this. I think MerMay will be my last illustrations for a while, for I want to get back into what I want to do for a career. Not ditching, just moving to a different section.

Plus, full time hours in retail is killing me inside, so this is a reprieve from the madness.

Enjoy your week and stay crazy,

One Week's Worth

Hello there!

The past week actually had a challenge from an old classmate of mine. To take five cute monsters and make them scary. Below is what they look like:

And finally a groupie shot:
I'm honestly surprised in myself for doing this. I did this in 5-6 days while working a little under a full-time work week.Especially since I wanted to put my all into the project. i really loved doing this and would probably do so again.

So for now I should use similar energy to my personal projects (aka storyboards). But first and foremost.... sleep. Lots of sleep.

I actually have an idea for Mermay! Yes!!! I am participating, but not as an everyday thing. I have ten, maybe 11 ideas, and since there are only so many, I'll be putting more work into it.

I will also be posting on other social media as of tomorrow. And I also want to bring in weekly sketches, every Thursday. That way I am posting on here two days a week. I am really aiming for these deadlines and the success of these will really make my month a little brighter.

So here's to the month of May! Hurrah Hurray!

Thank you and good night!

Story Boards to Beat Boards in Key

Hi there!

With another Tuesday upon us, I have some interesting things going on.

A fun thing that happened is a result of my going through high school documents. I went to a private high school for all four years (yes, very expensive, I thank my parents a lot for that) and some of the paperwork that I kept were from the last two years. I got a laugh about one noticeable detail:

The junior year (11th grade) assignments is where it got weird. Dad ran out of printer paper, and all of my homework, classwork, AND essays needed to be printed and collected for grading.

I'm sure there are reasons that my brain provided this as a good idea, but there are a lot of projects printed on BLUE printer paper. I also remember some teachers, at first enjoying the idea, getting a little ticked as I kept turning in the rainbow with my printed assignments.

So just to be clear, I did get a good grade, I just made it prettier.

I've attached an essay I did for English class of senior year (12th grade) where I repeated the offense (the why to this my brain also provided at the time and not now).

There is a second page to this... but it does quote some more interesting word choices from the author.

Outside of that, I have been working on changing a current project from storyboard to beat board for animation purposes. I will admit to being completely new to this, so any and all critiques are welcome. I have posted what the process is so far, and plan to have the beat board as some form of animatic by the end of this week.

This is a web commercial for a local Lockshop that works on keys for all sorts of things. One of the more unique keys they work on are motorcycles. I chose to emphasize that at the end of the commercial, with more motion from the character. The giant key featured throughout the piece is a key designed by one of the shop owners. It's kinda cool to work with her, since she herself is an artist. (But it also gives me waaaaaay to much leeway in the way of setting up and failing deadlines... )

This is half of the storyboard in my version of a beat board. I have it going into more focus on the movement of the character. I feel it is too even with the amount of motion, but I am hoping to use it with timing in animatic form. If not, toss them for in-betweens in animation.

I'll be honest here and say the true reason for putting in the spinning key is so I could avoid doing three walk cycles... Yeah, it's not one of my strong points yet.

I did sign up for a storyboard class (Storyboardart.org) and I am super excited for that. It's like going back to college all over again, without feeling sorry for another few months afterwards.

Once again, not sure what I will have next week. I am hoping an update on this beat board into animatic process. Maybe another storyboard altogether. Really I just play with this week by week.

Enjoy! And have a great week.

Delay with photos

Hi there!

Hope a good week was had by all. Last week was a sudden trip to Florida for family purposes. So of course I have some photos from a nature park not to far away.

I also have one illustration, and a work in progress. I would be farther on the second one if not for an art fair I am preparing for that takes place this Saturday. I am.... not ready to say the least. But I have stuff in the works for it, so it's all goooood.... (I'm not false on that last part).

So jumping right into it, here are some fun visuals!

For the illustration, I am going for the Sun. I have a Moon character in process as well, that should be finished by next week.

As to the photos, this is a combo of a walk near a family residence and Lake Griffin Park near Ocala, FL. They had kayaks and hiking trails, so my brother and I had boat loads of fun (pun intended). There was actually a point where my brother went ahead of me, and about 15, maybe 20, feet away from me was a gator swimming in the water. I originally thought it was a bird... not sure how, but that was my first thought. I just steered the kayak in the opposite direction.

Well, until next week! I hope to have something more for you.

See you soon.
